January/February 2017

Letter from PSNWA Chairman Jay Stout

Happy New Year!! It’s hard to believe that 2016 is a memory now, I think we all captured some great memories with our cameras and now, maybe with your new camera you got for Christmas, we will begin our journey into 2017.  As I head into my second year of being your Chairman, I find myself looking forward to a great program your Board of Directors has planned for you this year.  Please check the website and our Facebook pages for more information and I look forward to seeing you throughout the year.

Lastly, I hope you all will take full advantage of our Annual Survey and let us know how you really feel about the organization.  We really need and appreciate good honest feedback as we continue to make this organization great.  This is your opportunity to become a voice in 2017.  The Board works hard to be the best they can be for the organization but we don’t think of everything, that’s where you will help.  So please, let me hear from you.

I look forward to seeing you at our next meeting or an upcoming event and let’s make this year the best!

Jay Stout

Black and White print competition

Our next Print Competition theme is “Black and White” and we will continue have themes for our Online Completions every other month.  The way we capture and produce Black and White images have changed over time, but it is still a substantial part of photographic art. It allows us to look at light and form in such a different way when void of color. Black and white images are not usually starkly contrasted. Prints due at the February general meeting on Tuesday, February 7th. Read more.

Help Portrait

This year’s Help Portrait event was one of the most significant in PSNWA’s history as we served the underserved in sharing memories with family and friends for the holidays. Nearly 75 members of the community came to have holiday portraits made, each against three different backdrops.  All participants walked away with a free compact disc containing all images and a 5x7 framed photograph. Miranda Viney organized the photographers and Cynthia Cooper kept our guests moving through the new studio downtown Bentonville, which at times seemed very small given the number of people served that day. Alyssa and Hilary Davis kept the make-up room busy. Thanks also to our many editors who produced the framed images.

Serving the community inspires PSNWA members and enriches our mission statement, by creating access to arts Northwest Arkansas. Read more.

Dogwood Canyon, is the oldest event in the PSNWA calendar starting back in 2003 and returning every two years.  Dogwood Canyon is a private park featuring shear sides with seven waterfalls, wildlife including Elk, an artisan-fed stream with trout, a paved walking trail through the center of the canyon, a hand-built Amish covered bridge, and limestone-lined landscapes that make Dogwood Canyon a very unique nature photo opportunity.
