Through a variety of examples, John will explore seven classic rules of photo composition. An in-depth discussion of these techniques will encourage the participant to see their subjects in a variety of ways. The art of photography is capturing a scene in a way that invites the audience to linger for a moment. These time-honored rules help us achieve that goal by coaxing the eye to move around our photos. Finding a great subject is only half the goal. Recording it in a way that gives it “life”, that is truly an art.
This webinar will cover composition topics including The Rule of Thirds, Achieving Balance, Leading Lines, Patterns and Symmetry, Depth, Framing, and Cropping.

Photographer: John Dailey
John is a Missouri native, now a resident of Paris, Arkansas. He taught college media design courses for over 20 years. Discovering photography at 23 with an Olympus OM-1 plus a couple of lenses. Dailey was quickly charmed by the depth of color possible with reversal film and soon became a Kodachrome fan. His “style” is looking for “the little things.” Taking shots of bits of the world that seem mundane at first. Plus, looking for the intersection between man and nature: those things that are forgotten and nature is taking it back. In Fall 2004, he was honored as an iCard Featured Artist on Apple’s website. Dailey’s work has won “First Place” and “Best of Show” in multiple exhibits.
